08 - 09 Changes Letter

01/31/08 | by Mr. McClain [mail] | Categories: Letters Home

Dear SCA Family,

I would like to take a moment and thank each of you for making the seemingly innocuous decision to sacrifice and provide your child (ren) with a Christ-centered education. Make no mistake – the differences between public and Christian education are about far more than textbooks and uniforms. Like sowing seeds, we never know where or when that seed will take root and grow. All we can do is sow the right seeds. Our goal at SCA is to sow the right seed in your child’s heart. Public schools as a general rule sow the seeds of humanism, “looking out for #1”, revenge, fear, anger, rebellion, blind acceptance of all lifestyles and all versions of “truth”, and so many other seeds that, once planted, grow and lead a person down a destructive and confusing path in life. I know that we are not perfect, but we are working every day to truly be a “sweet haven”. A place that sows seeds of the Spirit, looking out for others, forgiveness, peace, self-control, meekness, discernment of God’s truth and all the other seeds that will bring students closer to the Lord and give them the tools to face any situation at any time in their life with confidence and conviction. I trust that you have found that here.

We have come to February and reenrollment time. I wanted to include this letter to give you a brief synopsis of the changes we are making for the 2008-2009 school year. I realize the last two years have been quite an upheaval with my arrival and all the changes that have been made. I want to let you know that every change was made with prayer and careful consideration. I believe SCA is better for them, and we have seen great strides across the board.

This year, I have endeavored to change as little as possible. I am also well aware that we are heading into an economic “crunch” if you will, and so have striven to keep our tuition low. As you look at our prices, I would encourage you to bear in mind that the vast majority of our teachers who are sacrificing for the Lord earn between $20,000 and $28,000 a year. They trust the Lord to provide, but we must also be faithful to them.

Tuition: Preschool/K5 – no increase; 1st-6th - $100 increase; 7th-12th - $250 increase

Uniforms: We are going to begin mixing in new plaids and moving to our school colors – red/white/black. By the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year, we will be all red/white/black (with khaki). Students will no longer be required to wear uniforms to athletic events. They will be required to follow the “Dress Down Guidelines” printed in the handbook.

Before Care: Any students arriving before 8 a.m. must be enrolled in Before Care. The only exception will be Junior High and High school students and their siblings who may arrive at 7:30 am.

After Care: After Care will be charged on a tiered system. See the business office for specifics.

Dismissal: K5-2nd will dismiss at 2:50 pm. every day.

These are the big changes. Please take time to read your handbooks carefully. I know that many of you will be praying and seeking God’s wisdom as you decide whether or not to reenroll. We will be praying for you as well. If I can answer any questions for you, please let me know. God bless each of you for your faithfulness, sacrifice, and support.
